Hello
Welcome to Mrs. Rowland's Art Studio! I get nerdy about art and I am excited to share my love of art with your family.
I graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas with my B.A. in Art and M.A. in Teaching. I then completed principal certification through Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas and doctoral work through the University of North Texas, also in Denton, Texas. My dissertation was "Teaching Art Educators to Engage in Action Research to Address Teacher-Identified Issues in the Classroom".
I have taught just about everything from elementary art all the way up through art fundamentals at the college level. In addition to being a classroom art teacher, I was a traveling education consultant for school districts in the state of Texas, working with new art teachers, visual arts curriculum writing, professional development for educators, and art shows and contests. Before coming back to the classroom, I was the education director at the Museum of the Southwest where I was able to combine my love of art with everything STEAM.
I love to explore traditional art making methods and materials like drawing, painting, and printmaking along with using current and past technology to enhance the art making process. From typewriters and digital art to Augmented Reality and microscopic art, I enjoy finding unique ways to bring out creativity and aesthetic appreciation among my students.
The loves of my life are my husband James and my two sons, Liam who is nine years old and Grant who is five. We love our rescue animals too and have two dogs, three cats, two turtles, and we always seem to be taking care of a foster animal or two!
